Panama (Okla.) Razorbacks win LeFlore County baseball title

The Panama (Okla.) Razorbacks won their second LeFlore County Tournament with a 12-3 win over Poteau (Okla.) on April 5 to cap a three-game run in the tournament.

Panama rode the bat and arm of Brex Caldwell, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after a dominating three games.

Caldwell was 4 for 5 hitting in the tournament with seven runs scored and knocked in three runs with a double and homer. He walked seven times, including six intentionally.

On the mound, Caldwell went 6 2/3 innings with an unearned run, 4 hits, 3 walks and 13 strikeouts in a 4-2 win over Wister, which had won the last three county tournaments and was the top seed.

Panama, the second seed, defeated Cameron, 21-0, in the tournament's opener, beat Wister in the semifinals and Poteau, 12-3, for the championship.

Panama opened the championship game with eight runs in the first inning.

In regular-season play on Thursday, Caldwell belted a grand slam in a 10-0 win at Pocola.

Panama (17-2) is ranked No. 8 in Class 2A.

POCOLA LADY INDIANS

Pocola claimed its third-straight LeFlore County Slowpitch Softball Tournament title with a 14-2 win over Heavener.

Allyssa Parker earned the Most Valuable Player award.

Pocola was 4-0 in the tournament, beating Talihina, 18-0, in the first round, Whitesboro, 7-2, in the second round, Howe, 12-2, in the semifinals and then Heavener for the title.

In four games, Parker had 3 hits in 6 at-bats, scored 6 runs, drove in 5, was walked 7 times and homered.

Earlier during the Kiowa Tournament in six games, Parker slugged 6 homers and drove in 9 runs and was walked intentionally 19 times.

Pocola (24-5) is ranked No. 2 in Class 4A.
