BARLING -- City directors unanimously approved Wednesday authorizing Mayor Greg Murray to enter into a contract with the Fort Smith-based Architecture Plus to provide architectural services for the construction of a walking trail and pavilion at Mercy Crest, a retirement and assisted living facility.

City Administrator Steve Core said Barling secured a $300,000 grant for the construction project from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission with application assistance from the Western Arkansas Planning and Development District in Fort Smith. The city received notice of this about a month ago.
